Chief Executive Officer
Dev Pragad is the Chief Executive Officer of Newsweek Media Group. Having spent many years in London as MD of EMEA office, Mr. Dev Pragad was promoted to the role of CEO in 2016, following his success in this UK-based role, which saw him drive the expansion of the International Business Times UK and Newsweek EMEA titles in particular. Mr. Pragad holds a PhD in Mobile Internet and BEng from King’s College London. He is passionate about the digital media space and the fast- changing ways in which societies consume and share information in the online age.
Chief Operating Officer
Alvaro Palacios is the Chief Operating Officer of Newsweek Media Group and has a strong background in strategy, business development, finance, sales and marketing. He has a proven ability to improve global operations, impact business growth, and maximize stakeholder value. Alvaro joined Newsweek Media Group from Televisa Publishing + Digital where he served as Head of US Operation. He previously held operations, finance and business development positions at companies including DLA, Inc, PRISA, Terra Networks USA and Latin America, Telefonica B2B and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Alvaro is a graduate of Universidad de la Republica Oriental del Uruguay and holds an MBA in finance from Universidad ORT Uruguay.
Chief Financial Officer
Amit Shah is the Chief Financial Officer for Newsweek Media Group and he oversees the accounting, business support, financial planning and analysis, treasury, M&A, internal audit and tax functions of the Group. Amit joined in 2012 as Financial Controller and has worked closely with senior leadership since his arrival. Amit has over ten years of experience building and leading finance teams with significant operating scale and complexity. Before joining Newsweek Media Group Amit began his career working with accounting firms in the UK and has worked as a management consultant for private companies. Amit has accounting qualifications and earned a degree in Engineering (Electronics) and qualification in Aviation Engineering.
Chief Technology Officer
Michael Lukac is the Chief Technology Officer at Newsweek Media Group. He oversees the global IT strategy, design and deployment of all business units. Prior to his current role in New York, he was based in London and worked as the IT Director at IBT UK. Michael held various IT titles prior to joining the organization, including the University Hospital Ruzinov in Bratislava, Slovakia. Michael received his Masters in Computer Science and Industrial Engineering from FEI Technical University at Kosice, Slovakia.
Chief Content Officer
Dayan Candappa joined Newsweek Media Group in 2016 as Global Editor in Chief of International Business Times, and has rebuilt the company’s portfolio of business, lifestyle and gaming websites. Dayan has worked around the world as an editor and correspondent for Reuters, covering conflicts, disasters, diplomacy and business stories during postings in London, New York, Singapore, Dubai and Colombo. When Thomson acquired Reuters, Dayan drove the integration of key editorial assets, including International Financing Review, the world premier capital markets magazine. He then ran news operations in the Americas and in Asia, building award-winning teams, including the one that won Reuters first Pulitzer Prize for print.
Vice President – HR Business Partner
As VP HR BP, Leiann Kaytmaz plays an integral role bringing a key HR perspective to the leadership team. She provides meaningful people solutions that assist the business in reaching its goals and objectives. Leiann joins Newsweek Media Group from the 9.8 Group (a strategic holding company with a portfolio in the media, marketing and advertising space) where she served as HR Director. She previously held HR positions at companies including C2 Media, Edison Schools, Barnes & Noble and Zagat. She began her career in HR working in executive search. Leiann is a graduate of Stony Brook University.
Global General Counsel
Rosie is the Global General Counsel of Newsweek Media Group. Prior to joining the Newsweek Media Group Rosie headed up the Legal team at LG Electronics. Rosie has over 20 years’ experience working for blue chip media and technology companies, such as Microsoft, Aol Verizon and Universal. Prior to a career in-house, Rosie trained and worked for several years in private practice, at the specialist media and technology firm, The Simkins Partnership.
Senior Vice President, Global Creative Director
Robert spent many years in the New York advertising world; he was the vice president, creative director at Kenneth Cole and vice president, creative director at Publicis New York. He penned the Capital One “What’s in your wallet?” advertising campaign, which has been running since 2001. He worked with Donna Karan on her philanthropy and on various brands, including Ralph Lauren, Givenchy, Hickey Freeman/Samuelsohn, Jimmy Choo, Champion, Microsoft, BMW, Maserati and Netflix. Robert has vast experience in creating motion/video and still content, and has worked with renowned photographers and directors. Robert teaches advertising at Columbia University School of Professional Studies during summer sessions.
Chief Sales Officer
Ed joined Newsweek Media Group in September 2017. Prior to that, he was with U.S. News & World Report for seven years, most recently as vice president of sales. He began his career on the agency side, at Mediacom in New York. As chief sales officer, Ed is responsible for driving advertising and sponsorship revenue growth across the NMG portfolio. He graduated from the University of Connecticut with a B.A. in sociology and a minor in business administration.
Vice President, Programmatic Sales and Partnerships
Ana is an executive with more than 15 years of success in digital media, specializing in business development and sales. She also has an extensive background in building and managing high-performing, multinational and cross-functional teams. Before joining Newsweek Media Group, she was head of programmatic sales and partnerships for Terra Networks, the largest digital media company in Latin America.
Vice President, Programmatic, Demand Sales & Partnerships
David is charged with increasing Newsweek Media Group’s North American sales revenue. Prior to joining NMG, he worked in sales and business development for digital publishers, broadcast TV digital properties and ad tech startups at several companies. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Southern Methodist University and a master’s degree from New York University. In his free time, David supports Liverpool Football Club (“You’ll Never Walk Alone”) and diligently broadens his eclectic musical taste through live shows and digital digging.
Vice President, Events
Clare started her career in San Francisco, producing Merger & Acquisition conferences that matched startups with tech buyers and investors. From there, she was recruited as the vice president of events at technology media company GigaOM, where she ran a multimillion-dollar international events business. When GigaOM closed, Clare worked with investors to purchase GigaOM’s “Structure Events” business and then ran that as CEO before selling the business to Newsweek/International Business Times in February 2017. She lives in Portland, Oregon.

Surj is a graduate of the MIT Media Laboratory and the Computer Science Department at Manchester University, Manchester, United Kingdom. A passionate and consummate technologist, communicator and entrepreneur, he translates those passions into products and events for Newsweek Media Group. Before joining NMG, he had stints at the BBC, Orange, GigaOM, Next Market, Sharp and more. Surj is a passionate cook and book collector, and the very happy father of two children.
Vice President, Product & Business Intelligence
Luciano manages a diverse team of product managers, designers and analytics specialists. Working closely with the development team, Luciano is responsible for the Newsweek Media Group’s global product roadmap. Prior to joining NMG, he worked in product and analytics positions at digital media companies in the U.S. and South America, including Digital Latin America, Terra Networks USA, Terra Brazil and RBS Group. Luciano holds an MBA in marketing from Brazil’s Fundação Getulio Vargas.
Commercial Director, EMEA and APAC
Sam has 20 years of international media experience with some of the world’s most respected media brands. He set up the international operation for The Washington Post, opening its London, Paris and Singapore sales operations. Prior to that, he was the online global sales director for The Economist, where he managed the commercial rollout of new products and won a British Media Award for most innovative campaign.
Bob was part of the small group of journalists hired by Jim Impoco to revive Newsweek in September 2013. Before that, he worked for 10 years at Sports Illustrated, where he was a top editor for features and special projects and oversaw the annual Swimsuit Issue, one of the most profitable titles in publishing history. He then worked as the features editor at Condé Nast Portfolio, the most expensive flop in magazine history.
Managing Editor, International Business Times
Nancy started her journalism career in the Letters Department at a previous incarnation of Newsweek, answering reader mail. She became a researcher, then a writer and then a senior editor of the magazine’s National and International sections before taking on Special Projects and the Front of the Book—her favorite Newsweek job. She joined the digital revolution by jumping to newsweek.com. She also served as deputy executive producer on the WNYC program The Takeaway and as an editor at msnbc.com before joining IBT in April 2014.
Executive Editor, Newsweek
Before being named executive editor at Newsweek, Kenneth was the executive news director and managing editor of Newsweek, and was a co-founding editor of the technology news website Recode. He has spent his career covering the intersection of technology and media businesses as a reporter and editor at Reuters, the Financial Times, The Industry Standard and the New York Daily News. He also wrote a story that inspired the Fast and the Furious franchise.
News Director, Newsweek
Cristina has written about national and global politics for the Associated Press, the Tampa Bay Times, The Boston Globe, The Miami Herald, Salon, International Business Times and NPR, among other news organizations. She has reported from Mexico, Honduras, Cuba, Germany, Italy and Bahrain, as well as from across the United States. She graduated from New York University, where she studied politics and journalism.
Deputy Editor, Newsweek
Ross started as an intern at Newsweek in 2005. He worked as a reporter-researcher for the international editions of the magazine in 2006, and as a writer and editor from 2010 to 2013. He re-joined the company in 2015 as a senior editor and was promoted to deputy editor in 2017. He’s written for The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Foreign Affairs and ESPN the Magazine, among other publications.
Global Executive Producer
Alfred joined the Newsweek Media Group in April 2017. Prior to that, he headed up the London video team for NMG, and he worked as a freelancer on television programs for Bloomberg, Arte and the History Channel. Alfred is responsible for running the global video operation in the NMG offices in New York, London and Bangalore, as well as providing an array of video content, from news to documentaries, for all the Newsweek Media Group outlets.
